It’s Personal

Not long after I had decided to start blogging, I came across an online course by Holly Becker of Decor8. I have been following her blog for some time, so I didn’t hesitate to sign up.

I’m not going to go into details of the incredible content, but what I will say is what stood out for me for where I am right now in my blogging journey; and that is to keep it honest and be real. It’s something that I will work on because blogging is such a different style of writing; it’s like talking to my friends; you wonderful readers out there. I guess I can imagine what you look like and what you’re doing when you’re reading my posts. This whole blogging path is my little adventure and I’m forever going to be learning and experimenting, with you as my audience, and I’ll be listening along the way to what you would like to see.

Holly asked us a question this week about what blogging means to us, and I’ve been reflecting on that since, and this is what I’ve come up with:

I’ve always loved beautiful design and craftsmanship, I’ve spent endless hours over the years pouring over design mags and I could quite happily renovate house after house but since deciding to do this blog, my eyes are that much wider to all the wonders around me. Now when I go to a café with my sleepy eyes on a Sunday morning, I notice the lights hanging above the counter or the interesting beaten up blue chair that I’m sitting on, instead of just the newspaper in front of me. It’s a pretty cool job to always be in search of the beautiful things and to write about it, a dream actually.

So readers, a week ago today I launched my first post, and I’d like to thank every one of you, where-ever you may be, for taking the time to read and support me.

I really hope that you all have a great weekend, and while you’re at it, take a look around you.

Mel– You are on to something, hold on for the ride!! Love the title [post and blog] , the light jars (heart x 2) and the whole layout. It reminds me of a little shop in a small town in Alaska I once walked into, I don’t know why? But that’s what bloggers do, share their thoughts. Good to meet you from BYW, Elaine

Woo hoo! You are a week old. Happy Birthday AP&C! Your comment about noticing the lights and the chair you sit in made me smile. That is exactly what I have got from BYW too. Keep living your dream Mel and good luck with the blog, I think it’s great, I love the design too……and that’s coming from a graphic designer!

Well done you! Many years ago – just before I started a blog – I read an article by a fellow who said -‘if you want to know what inspires you, keep a blog’. It was such strange advice and since I was at a crossroad I took his advice. I believe that if you read every post I’ve made since the day I started you can see the essence of what inspires me.

Well done on your first week and I look forward to many more.

P.S. You don’t have to read every post I’ve ever written
    P.P.S I love those lights

    Dear Mel,

We can’t thank you enough for doing this. It is a pleasure for our eyes and brings us to another place from the moment we start reading.
    I wish you the best.
    Take Care
    Marie
