My Stockholm Bedroom Makeover

One place in our apartment that needed a serious update, was our bedroom, especially the bed linen. We were literally interchanging between a really old duvet set (all of the buttons had fallen off), and a newer one that just wasn’t such a great fit – hence barely showing my bedroom here and on Instagram. Recently I gave myself a little project give the bed and room a bit of a makeover.

Those of you who know me, may recall my little obsession with sleeping in linen. This is all thanks to my mother in law in France who gifted me some years ago and honestly, it’s one of those things that you need to try yourself, but I warn you, it’s tough to go back once you do. Putting aside that gorgeous lived in look it has, linen is breathable, it’s hypoallergenic and regulates with your body temperature.

Not long after starting this blog, I met Nic from Cultiver who was in the process of launching her start up – providing beautifully soft, quality bed linen at a reasonable price to the market. I ordered some fitted sheets and pillow slips to work with my vintage top sheets that my mother in-law gave me and I have been sleeping on them since – like over six years, and they are still going!  So when I was looking for an entire new set of sheets along with a duvet set, in linen, that is durable, you can guess which brand I thought of first.

I wanted my new bedding to set the lead for what I’d do with the rest of the room and I didn’t have any particular colour in mind other than I wanted to stay away from white. Cultiver has an enormous colour range to choose from and in the end I went for a duvet cover set in navy and fitted sheets in smoke grey.

Cultiver is an Australian brand however they ship worldwide ( fast), have a stream of retailers and they also have an American site.

The contemporary Aboriginal artwork by Gloria Petyarre  on the right was always on the wall and that set some more colour inspiration and from there I brought in a velvet cushion in Brass by Swedish designer, Ulrika Gyllstad (see her studio tour on my decor8 article here) and above the bed, a painting by a local artist, Viviane Hedberg Perron.  It’s actually of a friend of hers while she was pregnant, I fell in love this painting and recently bought it as an anniversary gift for Guillaume. The gold/brassy tones are threaded through the room in the two paintings, the pillow and also the rug that we bought in visited Marrakesh.

We found the vintage Arne Norell Sirocco chair on an online auction and the Pipistrello lamp has been a long time dream of Guillaume’s which we could never find it in Australia or New Zealand.

So we’re all happy and cosy in our room and I’m hoping to clock up some lazy weekend winter mornings snuggling under the covers with a cup of tea and a good book. That is the perfect winter indulgence for me.

I answered some questions and shared some photos of my Stockholm apartment over on the Cultiver blog. You can pop over to the interview here.

Sending you hugs,

Mel xx

// While I contacted Cultiver to purchase the set, they were gifted to me. I am completely besotted with this brand and all of my opinions are my own.
