Hi everyone, I hope that you had a great weekend! I had a pretty lazy one other than a little clothes shopping on Saturday, which is always enjoyable, and yesterday found me setting up desk; which is what I will write about today.

This 18th century secretary desk was sent to us a few months ago with a few other treasured items from family in France. It’s made out of Elm and Cherry wood; they certainly don’t make pieces like that anymore! It’s so “out there” that I think it’s kind of cool, don’t you think?

It’s from here that I write my blogs, after a little coercing from my husband, as I’ve always been the one to sit with my laptop at the kitchen table. The desk is usable because internal drawers have been added over the years, and the great thing with a secretary desk is that you can close your work away to concentrate on other things, like family time!

I really love this desk now; all I need to do is look up at some beautiful artwork and statues and I feel a little more inspired. Can you imagine the letters that would have been written on this table in its life? I find furniture with history so fascinating; it’s known so many stories…

In setting it up, I was trying to figure out which lamp would work best. From the lamps we have in the house, I chose three timeless contemporary lamps from three different decades.

The first option is a 1950’s retro chrome lamp:

Then I have a Tizio Table Lamp (1972), by Artemide:

The last choice, a Tolomeo Table Lamp (1987), also by Artemide:

In the end, I think each of the lamps work well because of the simple sleek lines of metal versus the ornateness and warmth of the wood. You can see from the first photo, which one I chose.

Which set up do you prefer?
