Last week I confessed my soft spot for kitsch, and today I’ve got another confession….
I own a Lady Diana and Prince Charles commemorative plate. It’s true. I salvaged it from my beautiful royal enthusiast grandmother’s (lovingly called Nanna) estate. I couldn’t bare the thought of something that she would have been so proud to own, disappear, and some day become someone else’s treasure.
Every so often, I bring it out for the fun of it, at times hidden beneath fois gras. I kind of enjoy the shock value it creates.
If you venture into the kitsch domain, balance it with edgy modern pieces so that it looks intentional. Kitsch is good, in very small doses.
See you Wednesday!
Mel, how funny – I recently bought an amazing 1953 coronation commemorative glass in a charity shop for £1, it’s brilliant with a really simple white design and hand blown glass. Husband is always very suspicious of these purchases but I love it! It sits proudly on my desk holding an assortment of pens : D x
I would buy that if I saw it somewhere. they’re hard to find around here, but occasionally you’ll see some memorabilia with Diana at the flea.
I love it! Teri
Love it :)
Where did you get the foie gras ?
That particular one came in a “care” package from France:) I have seen some at Farro and Maison Vauron.
