It’s the springtime here in the southern hemisphere and with all of the beautiful weather, comes the traditional thoughts of the spring clean and easy living.
In my dreams I would have a beautifully organised house with no clutter lurking behind the closed doors, I’d have simple systems in place to easily file, store and display everything that I need for now and the future. If I lived like this I’m sure I’d gain at least an hour a day but it feels like I’ll never get there! Do you ever feel like that?
I’m pretty lucky; the house that I live in has loads of storage so the hard part is over for me, but I would love to open my kitchen cupboards and have all of my things stored in displays that are attractive and also practical. I adore beautiful jars and have a collection of Le Parfaits to store flours and spices but never enough and the rest ends up in the original packaging with clips on them or worse, with plastic bags tied around them – gasp!
So this is my goal over the coming months, and I’m asking you, my readers for help. Do you know any lovely websites or blogs dedicated to getting organised in an attractive way? I’m after conventional and non-conventional products and ideas that don’t cost the earth because I need a lot! I also love to re-use whenever I can.
These are the two areas that I’d like to tackle:
1. Kitchen pantry items of all sizes like flours, spices, dried fruits, and crackers
2. Stationery supply storage like cards, wrapping paper and ribbons
You can leave comments here or on my facebook page or even tweet me! Thanks lovely people, see you Friday.

Hey Mel, I’m felt so identified with your blog and specialy your bio. That little shop appears also in my dreams :). I don’t give up but right now seem little far to come true.
I’m enjoying so much your blog!!
XOXO
Hi Iris, thanks for stopping by and the lovely compliment! I hope that you get that little shop that you dream of one day soon! Mel:)
Cute ideas if you look around on this blog….http://deliciouslyorganized.blogspot.hk/2011/01/organizing-lipstick.html
I too love it when the containers are pretty, so I have found that using things I wanna keep takes “less space” if I put them to good use for storing things instead of just standing empty in a cupboard !
So, it becomes a bit more justified for keeping all the things!!
That’s so true Ilze. Thanks for the link, look forward to all of my research in the coming days:) M
Oh my gosh this is my life at the moment! Our pantry is small and everything seems to get shoved in there no matter how many times I organise it.
Love the photo of all the jars and the foie gras. This video from the Queen of all things domestic http://www.marthastewart.com/246900/how-organize-pantry-pt-1 may help. Look forward to hearing how you go with it. Catherine x
Catherine I’m glad I’m not alone – kind of imagined I wouldn’t be though;-) Thanks for the Martha link. Looks like I’ve got lots of homework which is great. Keep it coming!
I’m so excited to see your readers’ suggestions Mel, as I also feel like a bit of investment in organising would pay off major dividends in extra time freed up. My husband was bemoaning our spice cabinet the other day when a basket of (probably out of date) exotics came tumbling out on his head as he reached for something!
Ha! Nic your cabinet sounds just like mine. Nothing like closed doors to hide things:) Mel
Gah! My house could do with a spring clean!
I struggle with organising and storing my paper and craft supplies. I have a lot of paper ephemera so like to have it visible and on hand when Im crafting but this gets very messy!
Lately, Ive been storing in large white boxes (chic!) so have one for vintage text paper, one for vintage images and one for craft paper scraps. This seems to have helped!
My pantry is a mish-mash of Tupperware and containers as we use and eat a lot of legumes, grains, nuts etc which I buy in bulk.
Try ‘the organised house wife’ http://theorganisedhousewife.com.au/
have fun!!
Thanks Anastasia, I’ll take a look:)
My friend Nathalie stores her paper things in a vintage postcard holder and wire mesh baskets drilled to the wall!

I also love to store things in old drawers (like spice boxes) or in wooden boxes

(scroll up for pics, it shows how I stored dishwashing products under the sink, tablets in an old box, washing brushes in a zinc container)
It’s not really subject related but I can’t help but share how my friend Frédérique stores her collection of market baskets on a vintage bottle holder :

Hope this helps :)
Thank you so much for taking the time Audrey, they sound like fantastic ideas. I’ll go check them out. Big smiles:))) Mel
