With summer closer in the southern hemisphere, I thought I’d do a post on the good old rattan style chair as this kind of furniture is so comfortable in the warmer months with their airy flexible frames.
As it turns out, I fell completely in love with the designs by the late Italian, Franco Albini during my search; every single one of his creations just stood out to me by a long shot with such striking and surprisingly modern lines. While a couple of them are my absolute favourites, I’d be one happy girl to have any of the following in my home:
1 Margherita Easy Chair by Franco Albini for Vittorio Bonacina 1950
A very modern rattan chair for its time using traditional techniques, the Margherita is pure elegance.
2 Gala Easy Chair by Franco Albini for Vittorio Bonacina 1951
One of my favourites, this chair exudes design with its lines and form. It’s made out of rattan and is adjustable to a recline or upright position.
3 Rattan Ottoman by Franco Albini for Vittorio Bonacina 1951
Beautiful in both shape and form, it’s known to also be comfortable for the derrière and works well as a stylish side table.
4 Rocker by Franco Albini
This rocker is made from both bamboo and rattan and is a true testament to craftsmanship and design. I couldn’t find the year nor the manufacturer so if anyone has this information, please let me know in the comments.
5 ‘Primavera’ Easy Chair by Franco Albini & Franca Helg for Vittorio Bonacina 1967
This iconic rattan chair just says fun and is my other preference. I’d just love to have a pair of them along with the matching table for my garden.
Are you a fan of rattan chairs? Do you have a particular favourite here?

I’m definitely a fan of rattan. These chairs are gorgeous. Like you Mel I’d be happy to have any one of these but number 1 is my fav.
Thanks Catherine x
I do quite like rattan chairs – they have a summery ethnic vibe and also remind me of childhood – we always had them growing up! Numbers 3 & 5 would be my picks, both very stylish x
Thanks Michelle, yes we had them too. Definitely gives the holiday vibe:) M x
