For the right person, a vintage gift is the perfect gift. Some of my most treasured things were personally chosen for me at a market or vintage shop. I love the idea of re-using; it makes sense for so many reasons. So if you know a vintage lover, shopping for a sweet one of a kind gift could really make their Christmas. Wrap it up with some butchers paper and string with a little handmade tag for that extra touch.
The fun thing about vintage shopping is that you never know what you’ll find but if you’re short on ideas, you could keep a look out for something similar to some of my favourite vintage things in our home.
From left to right:
We were given this vintage peugeot pepper grinder by my mother in-law in France. It was actually painted but rusted after a wet winter so Guillaume sanded it back to polished steel and gave it an industrial look. Something like this looks great on display in the kitchen.
I found and fell in love with this enamel heat pad while visiting a French brocante. I particularly love the colour and use it so much. A heat pad is one of those things that most homes need a few of, so giving one with character would no doubt be appreciated.
Another beautiful gift from my mother in-law, I find that these vintage salad servers dress the table beautifully. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been in need of more salad servers over the years and I’m sure your vintage loving friend is the same.
These colourful glasses were a gift from a friend in Australia and they bring me so much joy. I have them on display in our open kitchen shelves and use them when friends come over for an aperitif or even serve cocktails in them. We have many different types of vintage glasses and they work so well when entertaining.
This vintage hand painted plate was given to us by a friend in France and has been used as both a soap dish and a small serving plate. The beauty of something like this is that it’s bound to have many uses over the years. I especially love the small cracks in it, which I think adds to it.
The cup and saucer is part of a collection that we have after raiding my parent’s cupboard (with permission). I like to serve them mismatched to take away the seriousness of it. A vintage and tea lover would no doubt love a personalised gift like this.
I hope that I’ve given you some ideas for non conventional gifts this Christmas. See you Wednesday!
some gorgeous pieces- i’d be thrilled with something ‘vintage’ as a gift…you know its unique and if its something beautiful, they’ll love it forever!!
Hi Anastasia, very true:) Mel x
Great ideas, as always. Thanks
Thank you!
Ah-vintage is the best! Your pepper grinder is just so gorgeous Mel! Xx
Thanks Caroline:)
I love buying and receiving vintage gifts, they show thought and consideration if it’s the right gift for the right person rather than something mass-produced and generic, great ideas Mel, thanks x
thanks Amy! M x
Lovely things! If you ever visit let me know and we’ll go to a market or something. :) hx
Will do Hege, it would be so much fun!
These vintage items are gorgeous Mel, I like that you use the mismatched cup and saucer to take the seriousness out of it. I find vintage stores exciting, you never know what you’ll find and the items add a warmth modern day things just can’t.
Hope you’ve had a good start to the week and your Christmas prep is going well. Catherine xx
Thanks Catherine and you too! Can you believe I haven’t bought a single Christmas present yet? A little nerve wrecking:/
