Oh the beloved smart phone! Love them or hate them, they do have some fantastic features that can’t be denied and I’d find  it difficult to go back to the old style mobile phones now. I was chatting with a friend the other day about our favourite apps and I really enjoyed knowing her recommendations, so I thought it might be fun to share with you what I use on a day to day basis.  I’d also really love know if you have any apps that you sware by, other than the obvious social networking apps. I’m on the hunt for a good time management / to do list app for instance, so if any of you know any good ones – please share, along with anything else you use and love.

Note that the links are to iPhone apps but they are available in android also.

Jamie Oliver 20 Minute Meals

This is a gem! It was actually one of the first apps that I purchased all of those years back and it was a bit pricy as far as apps go but I still use it today so well worth it. My kids have fun watching it also which is a bonus – any excuse to drum good cooking into them I say! As per the title, it’s full of 20 minute meal recipes, which is perfect for week night cooking.  There are also some informative videos explaining how to things like cook the perfect steak, choose a fresh fish, cut an onion and loads more. Truly, this App is brilliant!

Meal Board

A woman in the grocery store recommended this to me years ago as she saw me reading through an email of a shopping list to myself and it’s also still in good use. The idea is that you store all of your recipes on the app and from that you can create weekly meal plans and convert it to shopping lists. There is also room to eliminate basics like oil and salt etc from the shopping list and you can add other non food groceries to the list. What I love about it is that you always have your recipes on hand so if you decide to do a spontaneous shop you can and also great to travel with. The only downside was the time it took to add the recipes, which can be done from a regular website for ease of typing but once they’re in they’re there to stay and you can keep adding.

JotNot Scanner Pro

I’m one of those people that don’t own a printer at home. While a few times I’ve been caught out, I figure I’m saving a few trees along the way.  My need for a scanner has never ceased though so I’ve been using JotNot to take a photo of the document and convert it to PDF or JPG and email it on. It also allows for multiple documents. This one is gold!

Over

This is a really sweet and easy to use text and artwork over photo App. I’ve used it for some blog posts like this one, but also some little messages over personal photos or invites to send to friends and family.

Tabata Timer

Burn fat and tone with four minute intense interval training! Hello? The idea is that you perform eight 20 second bursts of energy/exercise and for it to be truly effective, you really do need to go hard. There’s a lot of research behind it, just google “Tabata” or you can read this article here. The App I use is a timer, which is really needed for this type of exercise.

A special mention goes to my friend, Emma’s app, My Recipe Jar. It’s a clever social networking app where you swap recipes with friends.  I didn’t include it here because I have already reviewed it here.

Do you use any of these apps? Don’t forget to share any that you use and love in your day to day life.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Useful!! Thanks Mel, I know apps would make my life infinitely easier but I’m still a pen and paper gal : D x I do love downloading podcasts though for when I head out for my run, it keeps my mind engaged when I just want to go home and sit on the sofa with a box of chocolates. My favourite at the moment is Jillian Michaels podcasts. x
