I hope that you all had a great weekend? The weather is really starting to warm up for us here, so more time outside on our sunny back deck.
Here’s a little roundup of some of my favourite Instagram pics lately. You can follow me via @mel_chesneau or click here.
I love our little nautical theme we’ve got going in our entry. I bought these boats at a flea market in Toulouse, France. Actually it was the flea market where Guillaume and I met, only years later. They make me smile when I arrive home and the kids adore them also. I can just imagine a marine rope mat by Serpent Sea here to complete the look.
I can’t get enough of beautiful chairs and mid-century chairs are forever the champions in form and design. I gave myself a couple of precious hours to myself and visited the Auckland Art Gallery on Friday to see the California Design exhibition that ended yesterday. It was well worth it and I was swooning over pretty much everything there including this Luther Conover Chari and Eames LAR Chair!
I took this Instagram photo while I was shooting for a guest post on Hege In France. Did you see the post? I show three areas in my home displaying Aboriginal contemporary art. The photo on the wall is of a good friend of mine and me when she visited me while I was living in France. And yes, I smoked – très français!
I have Jasmine in bloom in my garden at the moment and there’s nothing better than freshly picked flowers from the garden. This amber bottle compliments the colour of the Jasmine beautifully. I found this vintage bottle stuck in the soil beside an old shearing shed on a friend’s property in northern New South Wales years ago, I’m so glad I kept it.
Finally, a photo of my family, walking back after a wonderful day together picnicking and exploring the west coast of Auckland for Fathers Day. I love this photo, it represents such a special day that we spent together.
See you Wednesday!

“The weather is really starting to warm up” – that’s not fair, Mel, really ;)
These boats are adorable – so great that you bought many of them, one of them would be nice, but in a grouped like that they look really great. If you want to get your instagrams printed I’d recommend origrami, they’re based in Australia and offer free shipping worldwide, I tried it and was very happy with the result.
Oh that’s the one thanks Lena! Yes, sorry but we each have turns at the warm weather and watching all of you basking in the sun was torturous;) xx
I do love those little sail boats..
Thank you Hena!
I love the nautical theme !!! Also nice picture of you :)
Ah thanks Marie xx
Beautiful photos Mel. those boats are a great find and I love vintage chairs too. Love the scent of Jasmine and it looks perfect in that vintage bottle. xx
Thanks Geraldine! xx
So many things to love here Mel. For starters the family picture is so special. Are you going to frame it? I love the way you have your perfume/aftershave bottles displayed on a shelf in your bathroom and the vintage bottle with the jasmine just tops it all off! You look very glamorous in the photo with your cigarette. Isn’t it funny how years ago people puffed away happily without a thought (including myself), so different today. xx
It’s funny how a cigarette in hand still can look glamorous in photos, but I tend to agree – albeit so glad I don’t smoke now! I will definitely print the photo – I need to find that app that prints them… xx
I loved your insta pics from the Art Gallery – it looked amazing. Wish I’d made it along. I’ve had vintage apothecary bottles on my wishlist for ages – yours was a good find! And I agree, fresh flowers from the garden are the best! Love the last pic too x
Thanks Michelle x
