I feel like I just got back from summer camp. You know the feeling? Happily exhausted, head spinning from so many new wonderful things jammed packed into a small space of time and new friendships forged.
In case you’re wondering what I’m talking about, Megan Morton, internationally renown, Australian Stylist extraordinaire took The School on its first international roadshow to Auckland this last weekend. The weekend was held in the very fitting environment of Mildred & Co, a stunning warehouse conversion in Newton. When I heard that she was coming to town, without a second thought I booked myself into four out of the six courses on offer.
Friday evening kicked off with Kara Rosenlund’s Vignette workshop. To see Kara in action was pretty special, she truly is an artist and it was so fascinating to watch her in action, pulling us all into to the play of creating a vignette. We then with our new found tools, separated into teams to put together our own vignette with Kara giving us all a few extra pointers and encouragement. Having a team meant that the pressure was off but it was also really interesting and fun to work with different styles and ideas.
Saturday morning I was exhausted before I even began with all of my new found information and excitement spinning around in my head. Thankfully, the energy of Megan Morton was contagious as she imparted an enormous amount of her knowledge and experience of the styling industry for her The Science of Styling Masterclass. She really is an extremely giving woman, talking us through her early days to now, with every tip imaginable.
Sunday morning I got cracking on something I’ve wanted to get a start on for years – Photoshop! Our teacher, Simone Madigan was clear, patient and spoke in our language – so important for all of the “creatives” gathered around to learn this what we thought was an intimidating program. She took us through the basics and, from what I could gather, no one was left behind, we’ve all now got a pretty good understanding and are feeling confident to get cracking on Photoshop.
That evening, I finished my weekend marathon with Stephanie Somebody’s Instagram Debunked. Instagram is so very relevant in social media terms and Stephanie has had an enormous success with over 128K followers so I was really looking forward to know how she cracked it. I’m pretty sure she shared everything she knew with us – watch out Instagram feed!! Stephanie is just lovely and also so very humble with her success.
What a creatively charged weekend. I met so many beautiful and talented people during the weekend, some that, funny enough I felt that I already knew from this crazy virtual world of blogs and Instagram that we live in today. You may notice a few familiar gorgeous faces in my photos, I wish I could have included photos of you all – you know who you are!
For any readers in the States, I heard that Meagan will be taking The School to New York next year! If she brings these exceptionally generous bunch of talented teachers including the delightful Sophie Thé, I promise that you won’t be disappointed!
I feel like I’m literally bursting with so much useful information that I need to alomost take a step back, absorb it all and practice bit by bit. I’m so very excited where all of this newfound information and skills may lead me and this blog. Wow!

Oh, wow, it looks like you took it seriously! That was a lot of information on one weekend! But I would have done exactly the same. Those opportunities just don’t come too often and all the information will settle bit by bit. Thank you for the post and all the pictures, Mel! It makes me feel a bit like I was there too!
Oh I had to, I’ve been wanting to go to The School each visit back to Sydney so I though I should do it one bang. Lots of information in there that I’m letting sit for a bit… xx

By the way, I have also just started to learn some basic things in photoshop, but I’m sure that with the teacher like her it would be much more fun than following tutorials.
