Judith is the author of Joelix, a lifestyle blog about design, travel and nature. While she was born in the Netherlands, she now resides just outside of Paris with her husband and three (very photogenic!) cats in a renovated industrial building from the 60’s called Studio Sapique.
This home, well it really is something else. I’m sure you will love reading about the journey that she and her husband went on to renovate it into quite a remarkable and well thought out job. This renovation has been featured on Design Sponge and Ikea Family Live Magazine and you can check out the entire renovation of Studio Sapique over on her blog.
Today I’m so pleased to have Judith as my guest to share with us her favourite space in her spectacular home.
Our red cinema room is my favorite in our home. When we moved into our building, almost 10 years ago we cramped all our stuff in this room and lived there for quite some time while renovating the rest of the house. It was the only heated room at the time, which makes me an expert on showering in ice-cold bathrooms with frozen showergel and defrosting cats’ water bowls. But it’s not only the warmth of the room that I love: the trees outside and the fact that it’s on the second floor give it a cosy tree house feel. Or that’s what I like to think ;)
Without the cardboard boxes, the room is now big enough for a small dining table, lots of greens & dvds and some red cinema chairs from where we watch our favorites series or a movie. Somehow the red cinema chairs resulted in lots of red in this room. We rescued the emergency stretcher from the factory outside, the original and very heavy canvas stretcher is still inside. Our three cats also love being lazy in here, especially when the sun is out.
Thanks for having me Mel!
Thanks so much Judith for sharing a part of your incredible home with us!
Readers there is an entire section on Joelix dedicated to photos and information about her home, which I really recommend you check out along with the rest of her super interesting blog where you can experience some of her life and finds in France and on her travels.

Judith’s home is amazing and I love how it was such a labour of love in every way! I didn’t know they have 3 cats:-))
Great series xx
I think she needs to IG those cats! xx
Lovely to see a pop or red in the home – seems like we’ve all gone so greige, neutral and monotone in Decor lately, lovely to see some accent colours! the cats seem happy too!
Very true Anastasia. Have a lovely weekend xx
I love studio sapique – Judiths home is FAB :-)
Thanks for sharing Mel,
Axx
Thanks Anya, yes it’s pretty amazing! M xx
Such a beautiful home!! The red is so striking and many fear it in their own home designs. I live in St. Louis, Missouri in the USA and I rarely see it utilized. I just added it to a basement recreation room as an accent color last year but it was the first time it was introduced into my home. This home is memorable and well-designed.
Thank you for sharing!
x Dana
Good on you Dana and how lucky for you to have a recreation room!! M xx
Wow, I’m pretty certain all your readers are now going to want a cinema room in their house, who knew one could look so stylish, I’m very jealous.

How amazing to have a room dedicated to media right? Have a great day (or evening for you!) Emma. Mel x
What a bright and beautiful space in red. Those chairs look so perfect for lounging in. Also, like the urbanjungle indoors! xx
I take my hat off to you Judith for going through an ice cold bathroom and frozen shower gel to arrive at this beautiful renovation. You must feel so connected to the space now, I love that you can peer out the window and look at the trees outside, cats are gorgeous too and your use of red. Thanks Judith and Mel. x
Have you seen her other rooms Catherine? Her all white bedroom is beautiful as is her yellow themed living. xx
I just love Judith’s home! Her cats are absolutely adorable too :) I like how she described the room as a tree house feel….I enjoy this series on your blog, Mel! Wishing you and Judith a very lovely week ahead xx
Thank you Jocelyn, have a great week also. xx
Thanks Jocelyn! Enjoy your week and hope to see you next week! xx
