It’s always refreshing to see something that comes along that is completely different to what’s out there in the marketplace. The recently released Iittala x Issey Miyake collection has certainly done just this by collaborating to create functional and decorative pieces for the tabletop. The result is individual with a wow factor.
It’s a stunning merge of Scandinavian and Japanese craftsmanship, both of which are recognized for their simplicity and timeless design. The collection comprises of a range of ceramics to multifunctional folding placemats and origami styled napkins with individual ties, allowing them to be placed in various decorative positions. With all of this, and a few other key items such as bud vases and tea light candleholders, you have almost everything needed to make an elegant table setting.
The entire range carries Issey Miyake’s signature style that I’ve long admired. My favourite picks from the collection would have to be all of the wonderfully shaped serving platters in muted pastels and the folding napkins! I do wonder if this will spark a resurgence of those folded table napkins in future styled tabletop settings?

Issey Miyake has got such a distinctive and recognizable style, very elegant!
For me it began with that very first bottle of perfume. My memories of a moment are captured in that fragrance.
