Just before leaving Eindhoven on our final day of Dutch Design Week, we visited the open home, “The Young Collectors”. The renovated nineteen thirties home was curated by designers, Ruben and Iris of Studio Thier and van Daalen. The initial reason for organising the exhibition, was to show their recently studio-designed and installed kitchen. They then had the idea to expand on this by showcasing some more of their home furniture, lighting and accessory designs, along with that of some of their favourite designers.
You can no doubt imagine the response from the guests wandering through this beautifully curated home. The oohs and ahhs were echoing throughout the residence starting with that incredible rug above by Salem van der Swaagh and the coffee table by Studio Thier and van Daalen. Today, I’m happy to revisit this space and take you along on the tour with me. Are you ready?
The style was refreshingly unique, which I have to say that I always appreciate in these times where I feel that so much out there is same old, same old. I loved the pops of various shades of blue thoughout that was highlighted by the abundance of light streaming through the big windows. The compact kitchen, designed by the studio made a statement with it’s colour and small touches like the brass handles and (a standout for me), the infinite decor line along the Hi-Macs worktop cocoon. Just the right amount of touches.
Each part of this small home was put to use to display beautiful and unique objects. I absolutely fell for this mirror cabinet by De Intuïtiefabriek. Mirrors with a difference would have to be one of my loves at the moment, especially the ones with some other form of use, like a small shelf. I’m spotting them everywhere and I wonder if this might be a micro trend happening? I also adore the organic shape and forms of the vessels in the Impose series by Handmade Industrials.
On the bed is a woven blanket by Mae Engelgeer as part of the new Mono Collection reminding us of vintage kimono’s and her YEAH-rug on the floor that is inspired by Berber and Boucherouite style carpets with knotted and heavy wool feel. Aren’t they both divine?!!
The hallway between the bedroom and bathroom was cleverly put to great use to house the basin /powder room as partly shown below. The bathroom itself kept up with the home’s lovely and surprising statements like the Plastic Mine stool by Studio Thier and van Daalen. It’s made with excavated lumps of industrial plastic waste and translated into a marbled range that we couldn’t each help but to go up to and have a good look and feel.
