Key Trends Spotted at Formex Stockholm

On Wednesday I visited Formex Stockholm to check out the latest in the Nordic interior trend world. I’m sure you don’t doubt me when I say it was an interior lover’s paradise. I’m also pretty sure that many of you would be interested in a little peek of some of the key trends spotted. Am I right? Okay, let’s go.

Brass is still very prevalent this season. So is black, along with muted and muddy hues of pink, rust, teal, grey and yellow. Hanging candles and decorative mobiles is definitely a big trend right now and finally, Pantone’s colour of the year; “greenery” also played a part, especially in printed fabric.

Here are my favourites items from the fair:

The Cylinda-line 50^th Anniversary Edition above, is a perfect example of timeless design. The iconic line, designed by Arne Jacobsen for Stelton was launched in 1967 in stainless steel, and today, selected items have been coated in a dusty coloured palette in enamel to celebrate his love of colour. On display was also a classic mix of black, gold and blonde wood with a touch of green. A really nice combination for the minimalist.

There were lots of lovely objects to decorate the home at the Cooee Design stand with various ball vases and containers. Rounded things are always a great way to break up all of the square lines that we tend to have in the home. The oval hanging candleholder in brass was the winner for me.

We saw more of those lovely earthy hues in Kristina Stark Design’s Still Life collection. Her small jugs, all hand made were winners in the Elle Decoration Swedish Design Awards 2016. Here is another great example of the hanging candleholder, the Hank Vertical Chandelier in iron with a copper catcher. Super cool.

The fair nurtures immerging artists and had a young designers section. A clever glass series “Dom”, designed by Lynum Bjerkem got my attention. Wth one single mould she has created a storage jar, vase, planter, table lamp and lightshade.

Like I mentioned, brass certainly has shown a lot of staying power in the décor world and it looks like it’s not going away anytime soon. I adore brass so I’m really happy about that! Danish designer, Kaja Skytte has just launched, “Halo”, a stunning brass hanging mobile with leather details. The idea is to add your own personal touch by hanging a flower bud, seasonal object or anything you choose from it. It’s so delicate and would look so pretty hanging in front of a window or simply against a wall!

By Wirth, known for their stylish home accessories and hanging storage has moved into furniture, producing a tray table with an interchangeable insert in wood or stone. I really like the practical aspect of the tray. You would have no idea that the top clicks off so it’s a nice surprise and a really smart looking side table. They also had their super cool hanging accessories on display.

I promised some ‘greenery” and Finish textile brand Finlayson had a vibrant show of green hues in cushions and kitchen linen to update your look. This brand is an institution in Finland and I’ll be reporting more on them and their philosophies and designs soon. As a side note here, they announced that they will be launching a duvet cover with a fifty year guarantee later this year. I’m intrigued, are you?
