Getaway
Pompallier Mission, Russell
I love stepping back in time don’t you? I particularly appreciate seeing the practices of artisans of the time passed, so I was fascinated by my visit to the Pompallier Mission Printer in Russell, during my holiday in The Bay of Islands earlier in the year.
Planning our Escape
School holidays begin this weekend and I’ve been madly working ahead of time so that I can maximise my time with the kids during the next two weeks. We’re not going anywhere these holidays, we’ll just hang out in our pyjamas a little longer in the mornings, go to the cinema and fun stuff like that.
Russell The Bay of Islands
I know that I only just got back from Australia, but I need a holiday already! Perhaps it’s the move, perhaps it’s the wet winter weather or all of the sunny holiday images from the northern hemisphere spamming my Instagram feed right now, but I’m dreaming of an escape. It’s an impossible dream, so instead I’m going to revisit my little getaway in Russell, The Bay of Islands from a few months ago.
Waiheke Island Getaway
If somebody is visiting Auckland and they’re here longer than a couple of days, I always tell them that a must see place is Waiheke Island. It’s officially Auckland, but it feels like a million miles away and yet only takes forty minutes to catch a ferry to from the city. It also has its own microclimate and quite often when it’s bucketing down on the mainland, the sun is shining and the water is sparkling blue on Waiheke. Well that didn’t exactly happen for us this time unfortunately but more of that later.
Our Queenstown Getaway
Queenstown: This is truly a very special place. I first went there many years ago as a child with my parents when we did the big tour of the two islands. Even then at a tender young age, it left an impression.
Leaving on a Jet Plane
As I write this, I’m about to hop on a plane to Sydney. Alone! Yes, just me, with a handbag full of my things. No toys, wipes or snacks. In the six and half years I’ve been a mother, I’ve never gone away alone – sure, I have for weekends away with my husband but not just me and certainly not over the ocean. It feels so good and kind of strange at the same time, I pretty sure I’m going to miss my babies like crazy…
A Getaway to Tapapakanga Regional Park
I really enjoy these simple getaways that we’ve been doing since we arrived in New Zealand. We hire a basic bach (holiday house or weekender for the non Kiwis), with no TV or mod cons in sight. It’s always situated in a picturesque location and at times with a great view. We pass the days together ever so simply.
Sydney Instagram Roundup
It feels good to be home after two fantastic jam-packed weeks in Sydney. We had so much fun reconnecting with friends and family and soaking up the city again. We were completely spoilt with the weather, the sun shone every day bar one, and temperatures reached a crazy (for winter) 24 degrees Celsius. I admit we were lucky because I was told that the weeks prior were wet and cold…
