It’s been just over a week in our new home and I have to say that with all of the stress and work involved in the past couple of months, it feels worth it. We’re now in a renovated villa in Ponsonby with the front part of the house keeping it’s old world charm with polished floorboards and high ceilings and the back part a little more modern with lovely views over Herne Bay with the Waitakere Ranges in the distance.
I thought I’d share a little Instagram summery of our hectic week with you.
Move day went well. It started and ended on a colourful note, which I take as a very good sign for our new home! I can’t believe how many beautiful rainbows Auckland has…
I won’t bore you with boxes photos, because that first weekend, that’s all I saw. In fact my head was spinning from not knowing where to begin. So when we woke up Sunday to a beautiful blue sky, I didn’t hesitate to ignore them for a bit longer and jumped in the car with the family, grabbed some takeaway lunch from a café and spent most of the day at a lovely little beach in Herne Bay. The weather was incredible, in my two years in New Zealand, I’ve never known for my children to strip their clothes off this time of year.
Fast forward a few days and I love my little spot on the dining table with that outlook. Around midmorning while I prepare my posts, I get a beautiful stream of sun coming through the side window – nothing better than the feeling of winter sun on your skin! This house is full of windows and light, it’s so good for the soul.
By the weekend, a couple of little spots were starting to feel like home. The first and easiest places to look a little complete would have to be the bookshelf and kitchen. Not exactly the end result, but getting there… Oh I also had to add a photo of my new Eclectic for Tom Dixon cutting board that I got for my birthday during the week! I have wanted one since I went to Tom Dixon’s talk at The Department Store. Love!
So how was your week?

Congrats on the move, your gorgeous new home and Happy Belated Birthday!! Despite the chaos of moving, it looks like everything is falling beautifully into place and you are taking full advantage of the area – great cafes & beaches! Sounds like you’ve struck gold at the end of one of those rainbows – so happy for you Mel x x
Thanks Michelle x
What a beautiful home and view you have now Mel. I can already sense that you are all going to be very happy here..love your new home. It’s exciting.
Thanks Catherine x
What a gorgeous view and that bay looks beautiful. I can already picture how wonderful your rooms will be just by the mere glimpse of your furniture. Hope you have a lovely week xx
Oh thank you Geraldine! Have a lovely week too x
Ah, I love to get a little sneak peak in your new home. It seems you live in a wonderful area. And this view you are having while working, is gold!
Thanks Gudy. It’s not a million dollar view but it’s a view all the same. There’s something for looking to the distance. x
Moving house can be stressful but when the new place starts to look like home I always wonder why I was so stressed. It usually works out great.
Classic Auckland weather is all seasons in one day so I guess that results in lots of rainbows.
Love the platter. Are those stuffed peppadew on the platter? I tried peppadew for the first time yesterday when I assembled a big cheese board for a group dinner, they were a hit.
Hi Genie! Oh yes, the all seasons is so true. I remember putting clothes out on the line with the sun shining – perfect drying weather only to be running out five minutes later in the pouring rain. They are peppadews however bought at Farro, not by me. Mel x
