Being new to New Zealand, I first read about Claire Donaldson of One Lovely Day over at The Design Chaser. Claire, who was born into an artistic family, tells us that when she arrived in this world; it was literally in a pot of paint.  Growing up in these creative surrounds later led her to lending her talents to styling and the opening of her company, One Lovely Day. Take a look through her work and I’m sure you’ll agree that the events that Claire pulls together are nothing short of perfection and while each of them are unique and to her customers brief, there’s still that “One Lovely Day” stamp.  She has most recently come up with a fabulous idea of acquiring a retro caravan, “One Lovely Wagon” that will be a mobile bar, available soon and perfect to hire for summer events.

Wow, I’ve been so busy catching up with everyone since arriving in Sydney on Friday, I’m feeling rather exhausted but content all the same. I had a little setback the day before we left when I realised that my son’s passport had expired! I can’t tell you the stress levels I experienced on Thursday while I was trying to find a solution on the phone to Immigration and the airline but thankfully they were so helpful and we managed to get to Australia to apply for another passport. It’s crazy and one of those things you think will never happen to you because it’s the obvious right, to check the passports when you plan to leave the country?

I’m so pleased to introduce the final of the line up for my Wednesday regular features.  A lovely friend and fellow blogger, Amy Bartle of Simple Style Notebook, suggested the idea of “On The Wall” to me a couple of months ago while I was in the throws of moving. I immediately fell for the idea and put it on my to do list. Of course having Amy launch it was a must!

A few months ago at a dinner party, I listened to my friends talk about a zero waste family living in The States that they read about in the French newspaper, Le Monde. This family, they told me, produces only one litre of rubbish a year! I wondered how it could be possible? The next day I googled zero waste family and found Bea Johnson’s blog and my fascination with this idea has kept leading me back to her site.

Oh what a morning I’ve had! Firstly it’s school holidays here in New Zealand so I’ve got my hands full with my three little ones running around and to top it off, my husband returned from a work trip to find that his car didn’t start, so we had to wait all morning for it to be towed away much to the delight of the kids.

Des-Harris-of-Clooney

To kick off my 5 Food Questions series for this year, I thought who better to have answer them than Des Harris, of Clooney restaurant. Des has just recently been awarded Chef of the Year by Cuisine NZ Good Food Awards, and Clooney, which is a bit of an establishment here in Auckland, is one of only two restaurants that holds three hats.

A couple of weeks ago, my daughter and youngest child started going to day care one day a week with one of her brothers. For the first time in six years I now hove one whole day a week all to myself! Now while I might treat myself to the odd lunch, pedicure or facial on Tuesdays, what I’m really looking forward to doing is focusing on getting more original content on Armoire, Pegs and Casserole.  I’m going to go out and about and photograph and interview shops, creative people and the like.
