A person’s gift wish list says a lot about them, their personal taste and of course, where they are in their lives at that particular moment. I thought as we come to the close of the year and for the fun, I’d ask some of my talented blogging friends who have previously been my On The Wall or My Space guest, what they would like if they had three wishes this Christmas. One needed to be personal, one for the home and one that was beyond themselves. I wish I had a magic wand to grant all of these wishes, particularly number three, which you can feel that they are so passionate about. Perhaps you can send them each a bit of Christmas cheer of your own and pop over to each of their equally amazing blogs that they worked so hard on during this year and say hi.
Emma from A Quiet Style
Personal gift: What I would really like for Christmas, is a weekend away with just my husband at Babington House, doing absolutely nothing but eating and being pampered!
Gift for the home: I’ve got my eye on one of these gorgeous teapots from Folklore, in fact, I would be happy with anything from that store!
Gift beyond yourself: More than anything else, I hope that my Dad continues to get better and better from being seriously ill earlier this year.
Amy from Simple Style Notebook
Personal gift: A print by my favourite blogger and illustrator Garance Dore. With a big renovation project underway I’ve taken to dressing my walls rather than myself lately!
Gift for the home: A black lacquer tray from West Elm, beautiful and practical.
Gift beyond yourself: A very difficult ask because we all dream of solving the impossible, which for me would be a cure for cancer. With friends and family affected each year it is so hard to imagine a time when we might not have to worry about it, so in the meantime I’ve been fund raising for our local cancer hospital.
Perhaps more achievable is the wish that we could all be a little kinder and forgiving to ourselves. Women in particular can be so hard on ourselves and in my yoga teaching I’m now trying to instil the idea of acceptance into all my students. It’s a small step but can make a huge difference in how we live our daily lives.
Audrey from La Maison Douce
Personal gift: I have just started to learn the guitar, so I would like my own!
Gift for the home: this classic tse-tse vase
Gift beyond yourself: I would love to see a canteen system implemented in New Zealand schools. It would solve a lot of issues such as kids going to school hungry and childhood obesity.
Gudy from Eclectic Trends
Personal gift: My dream is a trip to New York. I have been to so many countries and cities in the past decades but never made it to NYC. I never could quite fit in into the calendar and I am dying to do so in 2015. I might force the situation a little and offer a workshop there. Who knows?? :-)
Gift for the home: I need a new sofa, a new bed, new table and chairs for my living. So pretty much all the bigger pieces. Baxter, Poliform, Flexorm, Minotti-all the Italian brands would really fit nicely into my life right now:-)
Gift beyond yourself: Creative workshops for free for kids and adults supported by governments in order to encourage children to live their creativity with no boundaries and adults to get it back and slowly incorporate in their daily life again. I could write a long essay here but I guess you get my idea…
Catherine from Farmhouse Home
Personal gift: Would be the new Ottolenghi book Plenty More. I always buy my books from The Book Depository as I find them very reasonably priced.
Gift for the home: Any of the Lucerne range from Provincial Home Living I’m hoping to buy for the built in unit in our loungeroom. I fell in love with this range as soon as I saw it in the store. The Lucerne Shallow Bowl, the Lucerne Maltine Bottle, Lucerne Donkey Bowl and the Lucerne Compote Bowl.
Gift beyond yourself: I feel so sad seeing homeless men sleeping in the street. We have one man near us that wheels his possessions around all day in a shopping trolley and sits on park benches, they’re so brave. Everybody deserves a place to live and to know where they’re going to lay their head at night. My prayer is for all the homeless men to be housed in accommodation they can call their own. More important than any material want, I wish everyone health, inner peace and happiness in 2015.
Yvonne from Mouseblossom
Personal gift: The ceramic mini series by Baileydoesntbark is so precious…
Gift for the home: Art is always a good idea, providing you know the recipient’s taste of course ;) This work by Jeremy Miranda would look beautiful above a mantle, for a very cosy Christmas:
Gift beyond yourself: Safety for all animals is something I wish for. They are so vulnerable and need our protection. Always.
Caroline from Trend Daily
Personal gift: I’ve spotted some more fabulous brogues by John White Shoes. Strictly Speaking, they’re shoes for men, but when they come in my size, then I say it would be rude not to buy them-they’re all hand-made in Northampton- home of the British shoe industry and I love them. I have dark brown and black already, as well as patent maroon from John White, so I think tan would finish off my collection perfectly-extravegant I know!!
Gift for the home: Both for the wall this year: ‘love cactus’ poster from the Skandivis webshop and ‘leff copper 24 hour flip wall clock’ from Habitat.
Gift beyond yourself: as with every year it’s a little extra donation to Age UK-http://www.ageuk.org.uk after all , their present is our future and after the older generation spent their lives working hard to provide for us, it isn’t too much to ask that they have enough food, heating and a decent roof over their heads.
