Alvar Aalto tea trolley

It all started with this image. Everything about it spoke to me, the artwork, the Panton Chair, the herringbone floor, and then of course the trolley. This impeccable piece of design, the Tea Trolley is by Finland’s world-renowned father of bent wood furniture, designer and architect the late Alvar Aalto.

Trolleys have definitely made it back into the fashion stakes of late. I’d say that this one, in all of its perfection, tops them all in terms of timeless design. Not only does it look beautiful, but it has many uses and would be one of those investment pieces that gets moved around the home for different purposes over the years.

I’d never think of it myself, but it looks incredible slipped halfway under a desk to stow away papers and supplies.

It makes a gorgeous looking coffee table. The basket is perfect to hold plants, magazines or to hide away ugly remotes. It would also look great beside a couch as a side table, against the wall to display plants or the obvious, as a drinks bar.

The Alvar Aalto Tea Trolley also looks so adorable here in the children’s playroom. The basket is ideal to hold some books and toys. Although, I’d be a bit nervous about the kids getting creative with the crayons.

Though for me, by far the best use is simply as a statement piece, just like in the first image. It really doesn’t need much else.

Have a great weekend.
