Three months in our new home and my desk had a little restyle again. While I think it’s actually a good thing to shuffle things around, especially when it’s a creative space, the main reason for the restyle was that I wanted to put my remaining Happy Moose Wall Dot on the wall above where I work.
I love working with greenery so I specifically wanted for one of the images by Print By George to be of green foliage. I love it seeing it there! If you missed the post, you can see how I styled my other two wall decals in my son’s room and our entry here.
When I was moving things around, one thing that became quite apparent was that I’m in need of a new chair in the workspace. Two of our kids are still using the Stokke Trip Traps around the dining table, so at the moment I’m able to borrow one of the Thonet chairs. They’re not what I’d call uncomfortable but they’re certainly not made for sitting on all day. I need something a little softer. Either that, or get myself a sheepskin.
I have some treasures around the desk. One that’s so close to my heart is the “I love you” card that Guillaume and the kids gave me the day after finding out that I was shortlisted in the Amara Interior Blog awards. I put it there to remind me of what truly matters to me, my little family and also to appreciate how they’re my own private cheerleading squad. Every time I look at it, I smile and feel pretty lucky.
The other is the vintage Erricsson phone. I find having this old piece of technology on my desk, which now (and at the time) is a design piece, is a bit of a reminder that true design never dies and ends up in landfill and can actually be an investment.
It’s the first time that I’ve had a real designated workspace that I feel is a reflection of me and my creativity. Before now it was the kitchen table. Interestingly since having this space, more work and opportunities have been coming my way. I wonder if it is only a coincidence?
It’s not in my own room, as you can see it sits against a wall between my living room and kitchen. Luckily our kids have another playroom so if the need arises and that I need to work while they’re home, I can just shut the door. Our vintage German beer trestle table fits perfectly here and while it doesn’t have the depth of some desks, I’ve got the length to add my bits and pieces. I also like the idea that I’m reusing something for a different purpose.
While I still dream of that studio and workspace on the other side of the garden, I have to say for now, I’m feeling pretty happy and grateful with what I’ve got.
