urban jungle bloggers kitchen greens..

Almost always my Urban Jungle Bloggers posts begin with one plant, and then the inspiration for the rest follows. For this month’s topic, “kitchen greens” I had a succulent that my friend picked for me from her mother’s garden. It had been sitting on my windowsill in water ready to be potted for a couple of weeks. Just this Friday I found this lovely old terracotta planter at The Botanist, which I thought was perfect for it!

The topic also worked well for me because I did a long overdue rework of one side of my kitchen. Since moving in, I pretty much used the windowsill to dump a lot of plants and figurines without a great deal of thought. Here I did a big edit and selected just a few of my favourites and pulled out another African statue from the box. Amazing what a difference it makes you feel when you remove the clutter!

I love my new home and I think the kitchen looks quite cool. The owners did a great job using the old 1950’s cabinetry and adding a stainless steel workbench and new appliances. The big problem is that it is seriously lacking in bench space! There is only one proper prep bench which also happens to be the only area with powerpoints. The other side, that you can’t see here (still need to work on that) has the original cabinetry and the open shelves come down so low that you can’t do very much on the bench, store anything high on it and like I said no powerpoints! Before we had a bigger Nespresso machine along sitting beside the toaster, kettle and our utensils on the one and only real bench. I really wanted to gain more space so I pulled out our Pixie Clip and matched the denim panel with a Fog Linen tray and moved it to the far side of the sink that was never used. So happy with the result.

I’ll reveal the full kitchen soon.

Have a great week everyone!

P.S. Some of you may remember my TW Workshop ceramics hanging planter from almost a year ago. Look how much the string of pearls has grown since then!

Hurray for plants on the fridge! And for clever solutions and juggling with powerpoints and clutter. Did you use your stylist’s box for this shoot? Did you put the extra clutter back in there? The result is really nice! I like how the red 8 and cutting boards (and the plants of course) pull it all together. And so nice to see your string of pearls grew so much! Impressive! I got one last summer too, but it dried out during our trip to Spain. In three weeks it was completely gone. Oops ;) Enjoy your holiday, Mel! xx

I love your kitchen restyling, Mel! Very neat, beautiful and personal – the African figurine and the vintage plant pots work as a sort of signature of your style and personality. And what I really love about Urban Jungle Bloggers is that it encourages us to take pictures of our plants and then we see the big deal of growth they experienced over the course of time! It is stunning, isn’t it!?
