Before leaving NZ, I was super excited to be asked to contribute to my Urban Jungle Blogger friends, Igor and Judith’s book, Urban Jungle, Living and Styling with Plants. Since its launch at the end of last year, I’ve had a couple of the books to giveaway. This all coincided with the big move to Stockholm and settling in to my new life and well, all of that stuff just got in the way. Plus, I had to re-create my very own urban jungle at home from scratch after leaving all of my beloved plants back in NZ.

Pickled Whimsy Kokedama Workshop7

Rewind about two years and I was taking photos of an Auckland interior store when I saw that they sold Kokedamas. I was so excited because I fell in love with this Japanese plant art way back here, yet nobody in New Zealand seemed to be doing it. It seems that Coraleigh, from Pickled Whimsy caught on and was making them in her Tauranga studio, about two and half hours south of Auckland.

Urban Jungle Bloggers | Jungle Animals..

A quick hello to share a very special new addition to my plant family, a parting gift from Igor, one half of the Urban Jungle Bloggers founders.  In case you didn’t know, I’ve had the absolute pleasure of hanging out him and Philippe the past couple of days and showing them ‘my Auckland’.

urban jungle bloggers kitchen greens..

Almost always my Urban Jungle Bloggers posts begin with one plant, and then the inspiration for the rest follows. For this month’s topic, “kitchen greens” I had a succulent that my friend picked for me from her mother’s garden. It had been sitting on my windowsill in water ready to be potted for a couple of weeks. Just this Friday I found this lovely old terracotta planter at The Botanist, which I thought was perfect for it!

urban jungle bloggers plant shelfie-

I took the challenge to create another plant shelfie for this month’s Urban Jungle Bloggers. I was going to style another shelf, but thought it would be fun, seeing that I moved house, to use that same shelf that I did the last time but in a new environment. The big challenge for me was to create something that actually looked different.

Edible Garden happiness

With the warmer weather setting in, I made an impromptu trip to the garden centre yesterday to stock up on seedlings for round two of our edible container garden. Last year the entire family had great pleasure from picking our food from the deck and we couldn’t wait to get it going again. While I’d love to have a huge patch in the garden, we can’t, because we rent, but it’s quite amazing how much you can harvest from pots.
