changes coming

Hello everyone. I just wanted to pop in very late in the day for me to say hi and to share some news with you.

It’s always good to grow and change, and one thing that has been on my mind for the past months is how I can better this blog. I really love being here and I have so many exciting ideas in the works but there has always been this one niggling thing that I knew had to happen first – a name change. Yes I know, it’s a big change and really, it’s something that I’ve wondered whether I could avoid or not but I always return back to the decision that yes, it must change. I feel that the current one is holding me back.

Living room of Mel Chesneau of Armoire Pegs & Casserole

I thought I’d do a very personal post today. In case  you’re wondering, t actually has nothing to do with my home, I just thought I’d include some unpublished photos that I took for my Design*Sponge home tour.  What I’d like to share is  something that’s at the forefront of my mind at the moment; weight loss, exercise and feeling good about myself. I hesitated in writing this, but I thought some of you might actually relate to it.

Designer Insights Seasonal Picks

Velvet Chesterfield | Handwoven Arrow Tapestry | Grashoppa Floor Lamp | Bud Vase | Cross Brass Coffee Table

I was recently interviewed by Terry Blinds in the UK for their Designer Insights series about my inspiration, who I admire and my creative process. Along with this interview, I was also asked to provide my top 5 picks for the season. They are going into the cooler months on that side of the world, so I stuck to warmer hues along with some texture. I hope that you pop over to have a read of the interview.

preparing the plants in the spring

Two lovely bloggers, Catherine and Anastasia and I thought it might be nice to post today on springtime in our city. I had the grand plan to go to the Britomart Farmers Market this Saturday. Even with the ominous looking clouds and a bad weather report, I still went and sure enough, when I arrived, the grey clouds finally gave away and the rain came down in bucket loads. Not exactly my kind of spring and nor the lovely weather that we’ve been experiencing in Auckland of late. So instead, feeling housebound much of the weekend, I began to dream about spring.

Mel Chesneau NZ House & Garden

Guillaume arrived home yesterday evening with the latest NZ House & Garden in hand. The kids were at the dinner table and he opened it up to squeals of excitement, “look Mummy, you’re famous!” Okay not exactly, but to my greatest little fans I am. This month the magazine has interviewed me in the news section about renting and how I make a rental feel like home… oh yes a subject that I’ve been getting pretty good at these past few years!

The remarkables Queenstown

Hi everyone I just wanted to check in and say a quick hello. I had the most amazing time and I’m in love with Queenstown! We arrived home last night exhausted and refreshed after five days of skiing, restaurants and hotel luxury… heaven! I think I’ll have to do a little post about it soon and share some of our photos.

Turning 40

Today happens to be the beginning of my last week in my thirties. Sounds very dramatic doesn’t it? I have to say that the lead up to turning forty feels kind of strange. I guess when you reach milestone birthdays it’s always the moment for reflection and to take stock on where you’ve been, where you’re at now and where you’re going to. Looking at it like that, I feel blessed for all of the incredible experiences I’ve had to date and most of all for my little family, which is my absolute rock. I also feel so excited for the future, for the direction of this blog and all of the possibilities and opportunities that come my way because of it. With all of that, I guess I need to stop looking at those extra lines around my eyes as something negative and not compare myself to young gorgeous twenty year olds. Those lines make up so many stories and experiences that I hadn’t yet experienced when I was twenty.
