A Corner Of My Home

Back to decorating our home! After the initial burst of energy to get the place sorted, we were still left with a couple of boxes and a bunch of decorative pieces to find a home. Not only were we exhausted by the move, but as it does, life took over and between our trip to Sydney and two birthdays we hadn’t had a chance to do a thing until yesterday. Although we’re not quite there, we got a reasonable amount done including a little rearranging of our vintage marble bistro table in the corner of our bedroom.

You may recall the little vignette I did a while ago on this table? I’d be interested to know which one you prefer. Personally, this would be my preference, I quite like the calming effect of the statue and the plants and it’s very much in line with the earthy trend that’s happening.

I’ve always loved this little portrait of an islander boy. It was painted by my Great Aunt many years ago and was once on the sunroom wall of my grandparent’s home. I remember always being so fascinated by it as a child so when they both passed away, it was one of the few things I kept from their home.

Guillaume made this statue years ago when we were living in Surry Hills and I’m sure If he reads this, he’ll kill me for revealing… I’m always in awe that he can create things like that. By memory he based it on a photo of Johnny Depp and Vanessa Paradis and just whipped it up one afternoon! I just love the position of the male and female and find that our bedroom is the perfect place for it.

If Guillaume creates that sculpture in one afternoon and by memory, there is a true talent behind. It took me several classes to understand the human anatomy and it is not easy at all. I hope he still works with clay from time to time! Love your new little corner, Mel!

I love the vignette and every detail in it. Even though I liked the other vignette, too, this one would be my favourite as well. Because of the earthy tones, but especially because of the fact that the picture and the little statue have such a special meaning and story. (A good story always gets me!)
