There’s a lot of talk about small living at the moment and it’s a very valid argument in terms of the environmental footprint that we leave. Living in a small home or apartment can be constrictive, so it’s really important to be clever with what you have and use the space well. Ideally things can be multi-purposed, fold away and designed a little outside of the square. Unless it’s a house catering for a family, most people would have similar needs and because you don’t have the space, doesn’t mean that you have to lack in style. I’ve come up with six stylish space saving ideas for small interiors.

1. Cutter Mini Wardrobe by By Skagerak

This hanging solution is perfect when space is scarce. There’s a hanging space, hooks and a stand to place your hats or bags.

2. Ligne Roset NUBO Gamfratasi

This would have to be the cleverest mini desk design I’ve seen in a while. It closes against the wall when not in use and when open it’s functional work surface equipped with a cable slit and a retaining bar for documents.

3. Bang & Olufsen Beolit 15

You can’t go beyond B&O’s design and the sound quality is something that you can rely on. This looks like the perfect portable speaker that will fit a stylish small interior.

4. Hay Pivot Shelf

This flexible shelf comes in four variants depending on which way you would like it to face. It is also available with a corner section that you can fit into a corner or onto an exterior edge. No lost wall space with this idea!

5. AA Butterfly chair – by AA New Design

This chair is an all time classic and if you had to (I mean had to), it can be folded away. Most of all it’s portable and can be used as an occasional chair for that extra guest or taken outside on the deck while you catch some rays.

6. Normann Copenhagen Block Table

Trolleys look great in the home. They’re also multi-purposed and can be used in the kitchen for storage, as a mini-bar, a side or coffee table and even beside the bed.

I’d love to know what you think of these ideas. Do you have any yourself that you’d like to share?

These are such great ideas, Mel! I have a very small space here and that Beolit works great! We carry it outside to the garden and back into the living room with ease. I would love to redo my living room and make it more kid friendly so those Butterfly chairs are adorable! Maybe Oskar is a little too young to be climbing up on those ;} I am so glad I finally had some time to sit down and properly visit your lovely blog. I really do enjoy it here. With love, Jocelyn x
