Urban Jungle Bloggers Planty Wishes

When Judith and Igor set the theme for us to share our Urban Jungle Bloggers Planty Wish for 2016, my immediate thought was for tolerance and compassion towards everyone sharing this planet.

But how could this be expressed through plants?

With food of course! Food is one of those great tools in life that brings people together all around the world. It’s prepared in so many wonderful and different ways, not to mention it’s used as an expression of culture and heritage.

Our green friends play and will continue to play a role in this, and for that, I am grateful. The simple act of sitting around a table to share a meal with friends or family would have to be one of life’s great pleasures.

My discovery of how very easy it is to be an urban jungle (edible container garden) blogger came about last year. This year we moved house and in our springtime, I planted more lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber, courgette and herbs. Being able to grow food on a deck for my family and friends to eat is such a gift and I recommend you try it. Even on small balcony with sunlight you could have a couple of heads of lettuce and a small pot of the right tomatoes and you’re set!

Plants clean our air; they make us happy and nourish us. What a blessing they are already. It’s my planty wish that more people open their doors and hearts to others that they might not normally mix with. Share a meal, exchange recipes and be fascinated in the diversity of each other and the food on offer.

Oh Mel, I don’t know how I missed this post but WOW! Your garden is just beautiful and that lettuce looks delicious! I just recently learned that a spider plant has the power to clean the air of an entire hospital floor! It is amazing the gifts that nature gives us :) Thank you for sharing this exquisite piece of your life with us. One more thing, I love the word “planty” xx

Such a beautiful and thoughtful planty wish, Mel! I remember it well when you started growing your own veggies, the tomatoes looked so good and they still do in your new home! The succulents too by the way <3 I wish the world was a little smaller sometimes so we could share a meal more easily but until then let's gather around food with others as often as we can. Here's to more compassion, love, common sense, tolerance and plants in the New Year. I wish you a lovely Christmas break and "see" you again in 2016!

What a beautiful thought and planty wish for 2016, Mel. I can only agree with every word you wrote! And your urban jungle/garden is so lush and beautiful. The veggies look just super delicious. Who knows, maybe I’ll be lucky to taste some of it soon and gather around a table with you and your family and share tolerance and compassion in 2016! Happy holiday season!
