2016 Goals - create a one page roadmap

Happy 2016 to each and every one of you! I hope that you all managed to take some time off to recharge the batteries and indulge a little over holiday period.

This time of year is always my favourite. While I do enjoy Christmas, it’s the beginning of January that I really love. It’s the moment when I’ve breathed a sigh of relief that I got through the craziness that we put ourselves through for that big day and then celebrated the passing of one year to another. After that, it’s down to business and with so much hope for the year ahead and all of its possibilities both personally and professionally.

I’m not one for just seeing what happens. I really like to plan at this point. I find that the first couple of weeks of January is the best time for me to do it  because I’ve had a good break from blogging and I feel fresh. While I don’t work during this time, I dedicate moments to nut out exactly what will be important for me this year. Last year was simple; it was all about the rebranding. This year it’s about growth and really shaping Styled Canvas into a place where I hope that you and more and more people will continue to enjoy visiting.

I found the entire process really rewarding and now have a one page 2016 goal roadmap stuck on the wall in front of my desk. This will keep me in line with my ultimate goals for the year, which I’m so very excited about.

While I was putting it together, I thought that perhaps some of you could use this for your blog or business also. So I created a generic sheet that you can print out on an A4 sheet and use. All you need to do is right click to download it to your desktop and it will be the correct A4 size. Note that I have made it in a few other colour combinations that you can choose from here if you wish.

This is how you can use the one-page goal roadmap tool with a sample template at the end:

TOP GOAL FOR THE YEAR

List your most important ambition/s for the year – the one/s that if you achieved, would give you the biggest impact and change direction and open opportunities for you.

I put: Generate > XX UMV & $XX – On Brand

… everything below is how you are going to get there – your roadmap.

MUST WINS

List an area of focus in three to five of the boxes that is critical to the success of your blog or business and help you reach the end goal. This will also be the pillars and strategy that you’re likely to maintain for next few years.

One of my areas of focus that I put was “Brand” with a subtitle underneath “Gain Awareness”

PRIORITIES

List 1-4 priorities/goals to focus on in each of the boxes to help you gain your “must win”

One of the 4 priorities I listed to work on to support my awareness of “Brand”, was to work on “SEO”.

HOW / PROJECTS

List 1-4 projects. This is where you are more specific and give yourself specific tasks.

To coincide with one of my priorities of SEO I wrote that I needed to “educate myself on this to better leverage”.

ENABLERS

This is what supports you in doing the above.

For me, I wrote in the first box, “Balance & Efficiency – recharge, energise & organise”

You then follow in the same steps as above to support the enabler by listing 1-4 Priorities along with How / Projects

Don’t forget that you can choose different colour combos here.

Wishing you all a fantastic year ahead full of good health, love, friendship and what ever it is that makes you happy.

    Hi Mel,
I love how simple and focused this road map is. Downloading now and using it for my blog, renovation, travel, biz aspirations for 2016. All which will be based on listening to my intuition this year and asking myself ‘do I feel passion and energy from doing this?’ then I’m deleting the rest on the to do list :)

Oh good, so pleased it can help Melinda. I really like that you ask yourself that question. The fact is, so often we slug away at things that we’re not passionate about. Life’s too short! Good luck with it! xx

See, now that is helpful (was struggling a bit with the whole goal setting thing myself). Thanks for sharing, Mel. I hope you reach all of your goals this year! Whilst remaining calm and relaxed, of course ;) xx
